About GIF to Frames
Why this tool exists
GIF to Frames is a free, browser-based utility for splitting animated GIFs into individual image frames. It also covers the surrounding workflow: selecting ranges, inspecting frame metadata, exporting JSON or CSV, rebuilding a GIF, and creating sprite sheets.
We built it because the common way to get a frame out of a GIF — screenshots, timeline scrubbing, or installing a desktop editor — is slow and lossy. The goal is a single page where an animated file becomes a set of clean, named, ready-to-use images with the original timing intact.
How it works
The upload, decoding, preview, selection, and export flow runs entirely in your browser. Your GIF never leaves your device, there is no account, and no watermark is added.
Because processing is local, large animations are limited only by your browser's memory and decoding capabilities rather than server queues or file-size upload caps.
Who it is for
Designers pulling reference frames, motion and video editors importing image sequences, game and front-end developers building sprite sheets, content teams grabbing a cover frame, and anyone doing QA on animation timing.
The interface stays close to the preview so you can inspect, select, and export without switching tools.
The team
The tool is built and maintained by a small product team focused on practical animation and image workflows. We read every message.
